I have had an interesting couple of days! I attended a ‘victim’s’ summit on Friday and that led to an opportunity to be on the local radio station on Saturday morning.Always a pleasure! I am not somebody who identifies as a ‘victim’ and I don’t think I have ever heard the word used so much in such a short space of time. In 24 hours I had essentially been labelled as a victim hundreds of times! My personal favourite came from the radio show host who introduced me as ‘a former victim of crime’. |

Welcome to the final day of the series. This is very easy!Step 10simply requires you to acknowledge that whatever you decide, YOU WILL GET EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE COMMITTED TO GETTING! It’s not an easy concept to get on board with as there are usually a million reasons we can think of as to why we’re not as far ahead as we’d like to be. Yet, it is absolutely true and no doubt if you look back, you have already proven this to yourself without realising it. Change is not easy. Deciding that you are going to work towards true authenticity could turn your world around. |

Welcome tostep 9... You know exactly what it is you want, you have identified what you are willing to do to get there, you know how to overcome obstacles that could get in your way and now you just need to know how you get from where you are now to where you want to be. Easy! It’s time to create a plan! That might not sound like the most exciting part of the process yet it is what will make the difference! The vast majority of people will dream about what they want to do with their lives. They will spend hours dreaming, those hours turn into days, months and years. |

Step 8is all about planning ahead. When you are going for your goals, feeling super motivated and inspired it can really shake your resolve if an obstacle pops up to get in the way. In reality, we know that these things are going to happen! Today is about being realistic and thinking through what those obstacles might be. Having some time to consider what might hold you back is not something that should dampen your spirit... On the contrary, this is a vital part of the planning process to make sure that you are fully prepared! |

Day 7 can be summed up quite easily, yet it is one of the hardest parts of the process! Yesterday you were honest with yourself about what you wanted sostep 7requires you to: Identify exactly what you are willing to do and what changes you are committed to making to make that your reality. You have spent some time looking at what you have now and what it is you want for your future. One of my favourite quotes is ‘Begin somewhere. You cannot build a reputation on what you intend to do’ (Liz Smith) |

Yesterday we looked at the payoff that you are getting from your work so now it is time to have a look the payoffs youwantto get from your work. Do you know exactly what it is you want from your work or do just know that it’s not what you have right now?! You know that you have a purpose... Can you articulate what that purpose is? I do some work with young survivors and when we talk about what they want from their future we do an exercise that involves role models. Young people often identify a parent amongst their role models yet when I ask how this person feels about going towork the young person usually laughs and says ‘they hate it’. |

Welcome tostep 5! Have you been considering the responses and reactions that you had during yesterday’s exercise? If you were not able to think of any ways in which you could express your authentic self at work or that it would be very difficult to do so then you need to identify what the payoff is for working in this job! When we continue to do the same thing over and over again and we resist making a change, it is usually because there is a payoff for us. What is it for you? Is it the salary, the benefits, the flexible working arrangements? |

Have you been keeping yesterday’s questions in mind? How would your motivation levels, energy levels and overall wellbeing be affected by being authentic at work? What is getting in your way at the moment? What would have to happen for you to be able to fully express your authentic self at work? Have you fallen into a pattern of concentrating on what’s not working well for you at work? It can take a little bit more energy to take some time to identify what’s not working for you. It then takes additional energy to do something about it! |

Welcome to day three! Thank you for continuing to read and I hope you are enjoying looking at ways in which you can authentically survive at work! It is time to move on tostep threeand take a brief look at how you express your authentic self outside of work... Consider some specific moments recently where you were ‘you’ outside of work. Times when you were able to express your authentic self... What were you doing at these times? How important was it to you to feel this way? Identify how you felt during these times. |

Welcome to day 2! Now that you have considered how you feel both emotionally and physically when you’re not being authentic at work it is time for step 2! Take some time to identify specific moments over the last few weeks where you felt that you were unable to express your authentic self at work. What were you doing? Who were you working with? What physical reactions did you have? Can you identify a number of times where you were not able to express yourself, where you felt helpless or where you struggled to see the value in what you were doing? |
